The Stages of Genocide
~Stage one:Classification- Moriori (the victims) were descendants of the Maori (the culprit) but had a different language and traditions.
~Stage two:Symbolization- The Moriori people were not allowed to speak their language nor were they allowed to marry or have children with other Moriori people.
~Stage three:Dehumanization- The Maori people had enslaved and eaten the Moriori people. This was dehumanizing to a high point.
~Stage four:Organization- The Maori people had planned on invading the Chatham Islands knowing of their peaceful ways there and how close it was.
~Stage five:Polarization- The Moriori had been banned from using their language and had been forced to defile their ancient lands.
~Stage six Preparation- The Maori had taken control of a European ship which had carried them and had potatoes.
~Stage Seven Extermination- While the Moriori still followed the Laws of Nunuku, they were still almost completely killed off and/or eaten. They were also enslaved.
~Stage eight: Denial -This stage did not happen because they Maori were known for taking over lands and most probably didn't feel ashamed.
